How-To Guides

Remote Server Access

How to Access the West Server Remotely  It is possible to access network server user folders remotely via the web.  Instructions to read and print are available.

Bibliography

How to Prepare a Bibliography  Any paper or project you submit must include a bibliography which lists all of the resources you used in researching and preparing your work. At West High School, teachers prefer that you follow the format developed by the MLA (Modern Language Association).  Our Bibliography Style Sheet is based on MLA, 6th edition.  Also available here is a downloadable Bibliography Template

Outline

How to Prepare an Outline  Many word processing programs have built-in outlining functions, but many of us have found these to be more frustrating than helpful. We recommend that you use the following instructions for manually formatting an outline. These instructions work on most versions of MS Word (Mac or PC), as well as many other word processing programs.  Also available here is a downloadable Outline Template.

Publication Templates

How to Create a Tri-Fold Brochure  Use MS Word to create a simple tri-fold brochure.  These instructions were written for Word XP, but should work for earlier versions as well.

Or download one of these sample brochures (created with MS Word) and use it as a template:

  • Tri-fold Brochure  Uses 8-1/2 by 11 (letter size) paper with landscape orientation. There are 6 "panels."

  • Tall Booklet Brochure  Uses 8-1/2 by 11 (letter size) paper with portrait orientation. There are 4 tall, narrow "panels."

  • Short Booklet Brochure  Uses 8-1/2 by 11 (letter size) paper with landscape orientation. There are 4 short, wide "panels."

Or download this sample newsletter (created with MS Word) and use it as a template:

  • Newsletter  Uses 8-1/2 by 11 (letter size) paper with portrait orientation.
