Equipment Checkout
Out-of-building use
of equipment will be managed by library staff. During school recesses when
library staff are not under contract, equipment checkout will be handled by a
building administrator. Such checkout is outlined in
Management of Computers and Other Instructional Equipment
in
Administrative
Policy
1003.2.
The following are
guidelines for managing equipment checkout in the buildings:
-
Buildings will develop
procedures for checkout of equipment. Sample student and staff checkout forms
are located at
Staff Equipment Checkout Form and
Student Equipment Checkout Form.
-
Computers
designated as portable and other equipment may be checked out to students for
school projects with faculty or parent permission. Training and/or information
on the proper use of the equipment will be provided before checkout.
-
Computers
designated as portable and other equipment may be checked out to staff for
activities in support of the educational mission of the schools and consistent
with the district's policy 400.6
Technology Resources Policy. Such activities
include:
-
preparation of
classroom materials
-
data-gathering
and management on field trips
-
recording data
during classroom observations
-
preparation of
conference forms and end-of-year reports
-
presentations
at Board meetings, conferences and other professional meetings
Long-term
checkout and checkout for use at state and national conferences is at the
discretion of the building principal.
-
Equipment taken out
of the building will be the responsibility of the staff member who checks it
out. The staff member will sign a statement accepting full financial responsibility for the
equipment. This statement will be kept on file in the library.
-
Equipment taken out
of the building should be in an appropriate carrying case or be protected
against damage.
-
Equipment will not
be checked out to student teachers, practicum students or volunteers.
-
Standard desktop
computers are not intended to be portable and will not be checked out of the
building. During summer months, routine maintenance and upgrading may be performed
on equipment in the buildings, so it is necessary that the equipment be there.
