Computer Hardware and Software Standards

Hardware and software used on the district's network must adhere to basic standards that assure they will connect and communicate without special consideration. Technology support will not be provided to hardware and software that does not meet district standards. Current District Standards for hardware, software and donated machines can be found on the district webpage. Donated software must be capable of functioning at the level of the standards.

Donations of Hardware

All donations of used computers to be used on the network are processed through the District Media and Technology Center. Building should refer donations to the Tech Center.

All donations must meet or exceed the current district hardware standards.

An effort will be made to place equipment that is donated in the location preferred by the donor.

If donated equipment needs network cards and/or software, the school designated for the donation will be assessed for the cost of these items. The software fee is $60. Networking fees are $125.

The district will provide an acknowledgement of the gift, but no value will be assessed.

Buildings may choose to accept computers that do not meet the minimum standards if they are not connected to the network. Technical support will not be provided by the district for such machines and buildings are responsible for maintaining records of licensed software.

Exceptions

Exceptions, including peripherals such as printers, may be granted by the tech support staff based upon curricular needs as recommended by the Director of Instruction, library coordinator or other instructional staff. Exceptions will be made only if a minimum of technical support is required.
