Kirkwood Parent Teacher Organization

About the PTO

The purpose of the Parent Teacher Organization shall be to continually promote and provide assistance for a quality educational program at Kirkwood Elementary. The Kirkwood PTO meets on the 4th Wednseday of the month at 6:30pm in the Kirkwood Library. Free childcare is provided at every PTO meeting. The Parent Teacher Organization is actively involved in school projects such as the University of Iowa's School of the Wild, allowing all sixth graders to experience a week long outdoor educational field trip. The PTO also supports experiences such as the Artisits-in-the-Schools Program, in which the entire student body has been involved. Community and parent resources are an invaluable addition to the educational program at Kirkwood. A variety of speakers supplement units at all grade levels. Monthly meetings of parents are held to share information and make decisions. For more information read the Kirkwood PTO Bylaws here.

Eagle Grants

To help Kirkwood fund different projects such as new classroom supplies, field trips,special events, and other building needs, the Kirkwood PTO created the Eagle Grant system. Teachers, building staff, students or parents could apply for an Eagle Grant to help fund a project at the school.

To Apply:

1. Fill out an eagle grant application. You can do this by downloading the form and at Kirkwood or by filling out the online application found here.
2. Submit your application to the Kirkwood PTO box or online if using the online form by the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
3. The PTO Executive Board will review the grant at their monthly meeting on the 3rd Wednseday of the month.
4. If it is possible to fund your grant, you will be contacted by a a PTO member and invited to attend the regular monthly meeting.
5. Attend the monthly meeting to present your grant application to the entire PTO
6. The PTO votes to approve your grant!
