PHILOSPHY
The purpose of our library media program is to serve as a vital resource for our school’s instructional program. We help students to develop an appreciation for literature and an enthusiasm for reading. We also assist them in learning how to locate, use, evaluate, and communicate information.
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Each class has a 25-minute scheduled library media class once a week. This class includes instruction and activities relating to literature, book selection, and information skills. Extra classes are scheduled as needed for student research, work on multimedia projects, book talks, keyboarding instruction, etc.
In addition to scheduled library media classes, each class has one scheduled 15-minute checkout time per week. In addition, all students are encouraged to come to the library as often as needed to individually check out materials. Books are checked out for one week; they may be renewed as needed unless the materials have been reserved by another patron. We do not charge fines for overdue materials, but we do charge a replacement cost for lost or damaged materials. Notices for overdue library materials are sent home with students monthly.
