LEAP

Learning Enrichment After-School Program

LEAP is an after-school program designed to serve Twain Elementary School by providing quality academic, social, cultural, and recreational programs for children and their families.  The program is funded by a 21st Century Grant from the state of Iowa.   

Students participating in LEAP have been recommended by their classroom teacher or a member of the Twain staff.  Recommendations are made based on academics, classroom behaviors, good attendance, and their ability to sustain the extended school day. 

During enrichment time children will be allowed to participate in activities such as art, choir, nutrition education, martial arts, sports, drumming, bully prevention, foreign language, mentoring, computers, and much more.

The Schedule:

2:55-3:15 Snack

3:15-4:15 Power Hour (Tutoring and Literacy Activities)

4:15-4:30 Recess

4:30-5:30 Learning Expeditions and Enrichment

5:30 Dismissal

Our Goals:

  1. To provide a structured and safe environment which stresses responsible behavior, respect for others, and positive attitudes for all students.
  2. To provide opportunities which encourage social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth.
  3. To provide quality after-school academic and enrichment activities.
  4. To provide a caring staff who will interact with the students in small group and individual settings.
  5. To provide communication with parents regarding their children’s academic successes and improvements.
