Due to the limited influenza vaccine supply, the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) flu clinics scheduled in the school district are no longer open to the public.  The vaccines will go to ICCSD staff so that we can keep our staff healthy during this flu season.  The VNA anticipate that they will receive another shipment of vaccine later in November and will be scheduling more public clinics at that time.  The VNA and ICCSD apologize for the inconvenience.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Career Shaping Up For Tate High School Student
Nanci Young, Workplace Learning Connection

Tate High School senior, Chris Hogon, explored the possibility of a career as an Athletic Trainer on November 4th at Fit 2 Live Gym in Iowa City. This group job shadow experience, coordinated by the Workplace Learning Connection, involved 21 students from 15 area high schools. Chris learned about the difference between a personal trainer and an athletic trainer,  as well as the education and training required after high school to get into this field. Then, Chris and his fellow high schoolers went through a work-out routine that included running, skipping and squatting. In addition to being able to learn about the career, get in a little work-out and ask questions about this field, two former Iowa Hawkeye basketball players met with the group to talk about how they use athletic training principles in their businesses.

Athletic training is a fast-growing field and employment in this area is projected to grow about 24% within the next 5-7 years. As the nation struggles with problems such as obesity and fitness, the demand for trained professionals continues.  For information on this and other career exploration activities, contact the high school guidance office or go to www.workplace-learning.org

 2009-10 Experiences:

The Taste of Tate event was a complete success. Over 100 people enjoyed great food and karaoke singing. Thanks to all the local food vendors and families who donated delicious food to make our event a great time. Students, families and staff participated in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, where smiles and laughter were abundant.
"This is by far, the best event I've attended at the alternative school. I've been to several celebration events, such as graduations, auctions, and special occasions over the course of the last 18 years and the Taste of Tate was unbelievable," said Ewa, the wife of teacher Dr. Hani Elkadi.
